Here is a tool that makes testing thermocouples very easy to test. On the right in the photo is the tool which is connected to a standard 30 mv thermocouple which is the most common thermocouple found in America. Simply take the thermocouple while it is still connected in the holder and screw it into the tester. Light the pilot and hold in the top botton. If it stays in your thermocouple is good.
